SEE: Runaway Rudy the California camel hit by minivan, survives

A runaway camel named Rudy escaped his pen in northern California twice Tuesday and was struck by a minivan.

The dazed dromedary wasn't visibly injured in the 6:45 p.m. traffic accident, and a group of wranglers wearing cowboy hats later coaxed him into a trailer, local media reported.

"He's fine, he's hot and his adrenaline's pumping, but he's fine," wrangler Raymond Ferrante told the Contra Costa Times. "I have never done this before, so I can put (rescuing a camel) on my resume."

Ferrante, who works for the land management company that reportedly owns the camel, said Rudy was set for a veterinary exam Wednesday.

He said Rudy bumped his hump entering the trailer before he finally settled down.

The 10-year-old camel was walking on a road between North Concord and Pittsburg when it collided with a red Honda minivan, according to the California Highway Patrol.
