'I'm lucky to be alive.' Robin Roberts describes her brave fight for life in the latest issue of People Magazine.
In the latest issue of PEOPLE magazine Robin Roberts details her harrowing experience with the rare blood disease myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and her recovery following a bone marrow transplant.
Roberts, 52, tells the magazine that there were times "where I felt like I was dying" after undergoing the transplant in September of last year. Her sister, Sally-Ann Roberts, was her donor.

The cheerful "Good Morning America" host, who is also a breast cancer survivor, describes the debilitating and slow recovery as a low point.
"I couldn't eat or drink," she said in the issue, out Friday. "I couldn't even get out of bed. I was in a coma-like state. I truly felt I was slipping away ⦠then I kept hearing my name."

Now in good health and better spirits, Roberts is slated to return to hosting the morning show on February 20. Earlier, in January, Roberts did a "test run" appearance on the show.
"It's an amazing feeling," she said, speaking of her improved health, "each day feeling stronger."
Roberts will also be featured on a special edition of "20/20" airing Feb. 22.
