Bronx supermodel hopes to be more than a 'Face' in crowd

Devyn is a 22-year-old supermodel from the Bronx.

One of the more colorful contestants on “The Face” is a Bronx single mom who you might think already has a touch of the diva.

You see, the 22-year-old insists on being called by just one name.

Devyn.

You know, like Beyoncé. Cher. Madonna.

“I just go by one name professionally,” she says.

In truth, she’s anything but self-absorbed.

Devyn grew up “right next to Yankee Stadium,” she said, and a modeling scout stopped her at a gas station with her mom when she was just 15.

The rep referred her to a top agency that signed her on the spot.

“I wasn’t really interested at first,” Devyn said of modeling.

But that changed, as she spent her four-year modeling contract (which coincided with her high-school years) doing everything from print work to walking the runway at New York Fashion Week.

“When the contract expired, I decided to take a year off because it was my senior year,” she says. “I wanted to focus on school, graduating, senior trip, prom. During that year, I had my daughter [Bryse, now 2].”

She then took some more time off, and just recently got back into modeling, signed to a new agency.

But with a new baby, it wasn’t as if modeling was paying the bills.

Besides raising Bryse â€" “I think being a mom is totally a 24-hour job,” she laughs â€" Devyn worked simultaneously at clothes store Superdry as a sales assistant, as a hostess at Red Rooster in Harlem, and as a hostess at SoHo restaurant Jezebel.

She’s also worked for a catering company called Model Bartenders, which got her “occasional gigs â€" bar mitzvahs, weddings.” And she squeezed in some modeling on the side.

Then came “The Face.”

Devyn is on Team Kurkova.

She likes that Kurkova, like her, is both a model and young mom of a 3-year-old boy.

“One thing that I love about Karolina is that even though she’s a supermodel, she’s very genuine,” Devyn says. “She doesn’t hide her personality at all â€" she’s not one of those models where their personality is a clean slate.

“Plus, she’s proud being a mother. She understands the struggle of being a mom.”

And although Devyn can’t say how she did in the competition, she’s definitely keeping busy these days with more modeling.“I’m getting my test shoots together, updating my portfolio, running around for Fashion Week castings,” says Devyn, who’s strutting in at least two shows at New York Fashion Week.

Meanwhile, she’s back to doing the hustle â€" working restaurant gigs and trying to branch into acting as well â€" and hoping new doors will open once the show airs.
